Exciting News for SSHS

It has been announced that Principal Carlton Mable will be leaving at the end of the school year. He has accepted an Administrative position with FWCS, and will be moving downtown.  We will miss him, and wish him much success in his new position.  The new principal was also announced this week, Mr. Adam Swinford will be taking over the reins at SSHS and comes to us from Miami Middle School.  We wish him a warm welcome and look forward to working with him in our efforts to aid the students and faculty.

More excitement and many changes are coming for South Side as starting with the new school year, our feeder schools, Whitney Young Early Childhood Center, Weisser Park Elementary and Memorial Park Middle School will be joining South Side as they collaborate with Discovery to implement STEAM (Science, Technology, English, Arts and Math) Culture in all of these schools.  It will be an exciting year as teachers are trained and new courses implemented.   The first Leadership Retreat was held Thursday, March 22, at FWCS Family and Community Engagement Center.  Approximately 70 people attended this retreat and included community members, school board members, school administrators, teachers, principals and parents.  By their presence, each and every one of them demonstrated a strong desire to better prepare our students for the future.   You will be hearing more about this program as time goes on.
